Hello!

Welcome to my website... I hope you enjoy reading about the meals I create, life on a boat, my personal style + travels with my husband!

Fresh Start

Fresh Start

Much like you, or anyone else, I love the month of January.  In fact, I love the idea of the New Year and the month of January so much that the day after Christmas, I clean and reorganize my home, start thinking of intentions for the New Year, make lists and to-do's, write down and gather new books and honestly implement new resolutions right away.  If you are thinking "My, she is an annoying overachiever" perhaps you are correct.  I'm owning it.  I love setting goals and I do not see a reason to wait until the new year to encourage a new habit.  I typically have the same sort of goals for each year, the revolving list goes as follows:  Health goals, Spiritual goals, Reading goals.

Spiritual Goals:

Memorizing scripture.  I am a daily Bible reader because it is my personal favorite book and arguably the most incredible work of literature in history.  However, I have gotten out of my habit of memorizing individual verses from the Bible.  My verse for this year is Psalms 105:4: "Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually."

Another goal related to this is to start reading a favorite devotional book that I have loved for years but lost it somewhere in one of our moves.  We were passing through Portland the other day and I found a really pretty used one at Powell's books.  By the way, if you have never been there it is like a book theme park.  You could get lost in there for hours!

Health Goals:

I am currently in a pretty good workout routine and have been for several months.  I do yoga 2 times a week, cross-train the other 3 days of the week and usually do something active like a long walk or a "gym-jam" (that is what I call going to the gym with Tim, don't ask me why) with Tim on the weekend.  We are hoping to get into skiing again this season too so that will be awesome!  But healthy eating and working out go hand in hand,  I honestly eat clean 90% of the time but I do indulge in a lot of treats a week.  I want to limit it to one treat once a week.  I think it is so fun to indulge, but I want to be more choosy when I do so.

The other health goal is related to essential oils.  Last year, a good friend of mine bought me a starter kit and I basically never touched it.  I have read and researched a lot since then about oils and asked advice from several of my friends who use them regularly.  I started implementing them last week.  I will follow up with that soon and let you know what I think.  These last few days I have unfortunately come down with a sore throat and a cold and I have been putting lemon, on-guard and melaleuca in my tea and I feel a lot better already.  I use the Doterra brand for anyone interested.

Reading Goals:

I love to read.  I never do enough of it, but I really love reading and I have an endless list of books I want to read. Two years ago my reading goal was a book a month.  I did pretty well, not quite 12 but almost.  Last year it was 2 books a month.  I think my finale number was 14 books?  My same goal stands this year: I want to read two books a month and to help me do it, instead of reading or looking at my phone at night, I'm putting the phone away at 8 and reading before bed.  I love recommendations for books.  Send them my way, whatever you are reading!

enjoy!

Love, Kait
