Hello!

Welcome to my website... I hope you enjoy reading about the meals I create, life on a boat, my personal style + travels with my husband!

Thanksgiving Movie List

Thanksgiving Movie List

If you are anything like me, you are really excited to start listening to Christmas music right about now.  However, if you are like me, you also will not start listening until literally the day after Thanksgiving!  Well, I had a crazy thought.  You know how everyone loves Halloween movies and the Hollows Eve itself, and then right after Halloween all the stores are decorated for Christmas and everyone tend to just forget about Thanksgiving?  The American culture is so rushed and we never seem to just savor things.  I am very inclined to savor Thanksgiving.  My mom is the exact same way, growing up she would say no Christmas music or decorations until the day after Thanksgiving!  I love that mentality.  I think it helps make me really appreciate and ponder all I have to be thankful.  Plus, Thanksgiving dinner is kind of the meal of the entire year!  Why rush it?

I do think it is so good for us to slow down to enjoy and remember every moment.  However, I also understand the urge to start listening to Christmas music and put on those Christmas flicks right away because they are SO good too.  So, for the sake of enjoying every moment, for really living in it; for the sake of truly embracing each holiday to its fullest, I have put together a little Thanksgiving Movie list and a playlist too!  The playlist is basically curated from these movies.  I hope you like it, I literally have been listening to these songs since Fall started (especially the You've Got Mail soundtrack).  Let me know if you like it or listen to it... maybe you will even watch one of these movies or listen to the playlist on Thanksgiving day!

Fall + Thanksgiving Themed Movie List:

1. You've Got Mail ("Don't you just love New York in the Fall?"  The music in this movie and basically everything about this movie makes me so happy.   It is my all time favorite chick-flick, maybe my favorite movie ever!  Who am I kidding, I watch this movie all year round!  But I have to say it is especially good for welcoming Fall and Christmas.)

2. Dan in Real Life (I love this score, and Steve Carrell is just so funny to me.  I love the vibe of this entire movie, Sandra Lerche is a musical genius.  And the scene where Marie and Dan are in the book store and he recommends all those random books?  Classic.  Also, might I add he put together a very wonderful book list for your Christmas break.)

3. The Blind Side (What is Fall without football?  This is a powerful true story, I love the cast and it truly makes you thankful for what you have.  There is even a Thanksgiving scene.)

4. Sound of Music (Not sure why but "Favorite Things" by Julie Andrews reminds me of all the seasons and welcoming Christmas without necessarily being a Christmas song.  This is also just an incredible play and storyline and I love the history of it all.  I love how good and full of integrity both Maria and the Captain are. I sing these songs all the time to kids I nanny and they love them.)

5. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (Well, its Charlie Brown and it is about Thanksgiving.  I have always had a special place in my heart for Charlie... and the Christmas movie that comes next? Crowd pleaser.)

6. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Confession:  I have never seen this.  But folks claim it is actually centered around the holiday of Thanksgiving.  I am excited to watch this one too!)

7. Meet Me in St. Louis (An oldie and goodie!  I was chatting with a new friend about this very list and blog post and she mentioned she loved this movie too!  Most people I know have never heard of it so I felt like she is actually a true "bosom friend!"  [Anne of Green Gables reference].  This movie, starring Judy Garland takes you through all four seasons and even includes Halloween [Hallows Eve] and Christmas [This movie was the premier of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas].  It is so good, if you are an old soul like I am, you will love this.  I love it so much!  By the way, who else has seen it?

8. Little Women (I guess this one doesn't make any sense but they go through the seasons too and I basically just love the movie and book.  Forever love the characters Joe and Laurie.  If you can watch this move without crying, you let me know).

9. By the Light of the Silvery Moon (This is also a very old movie, but one that I grew up watching with my family and I still remember all the songs [It goes with another movie called "On Moonlight Bay"].  Now this one I would be shocked to know who has seen it.  Starring Doris Day, one of my favorite actresses and singers.  She is just so beautiful and wholesome and sings like a bird.  This is a must watch anyway but there is a specific Thanksgiving scene and a song called "Ain't We Got Fun."  There is also a funny scene with a live turkey running around the house.  Watch it!!)

10. Miracle on 34th Street (Also a welcoming of winter and Christmas [obviously] but there is a good Thanksgiving scene in here as well!  I also just love that Natalie.  Darling girl!)

enjoy...

Love, Kait
