Hello!

Welcome to my website... I hope you enjoy reading about the meals I create, life on a boat, my personal style + travels with my husband!

Autumn on the Autumn Dawn

Autumn on the Autumn Dawn

Literally as I was typing the title, it occurred to me that the boat we live on is called the Autumn Dawn.  So I guess this is our boat's favorite season!  A lot of you have been curious about our living situation for the past year... that is most likely why you are still reading?  Well yes, the secret is out, Tim and I live on a boat.  It is a huge "crabber" fishing boat that he takes during the summer to tender with a crew of 5-8 guys.  I will spare you the intricate details about the industry for later but always know you can ask me any questions! There are soooo many perks of living on the boat, for example, we live in one the coolest and definitely higher priced areas of Seattle for next to nothing.  We are walking distance from one of our favorite brunch spots (Portage Bay) and two of the BEST mexican restaurants in town (La Carta de Oaxaca + SeΓ±or Moose) not to mention one of my FAVORITE neighborhoods with probably my top two restaurants in all of Seattle (The Fat Hen + Delancey Pizza).  I basically just gave you a gold mine in restaurants, so write it all down.  Anyway, lots of great blessings, perks, gifts, privileges what have you, by living on the boat.  However, it is not to say that boat life does not have its downsides.  Lets just say it is a pretty big deal that we have normal running water and a working shower!

Last year was very trying for me, it just seemed like everything would always go wrong and there was a lot of 'tude happening if you know what I mean.  Looking back, I cannot say that circumstances have changed all that much (it still takes us over 10 minutes to walk from our cars to the boat... just picture me carrying groceries and bags in from the car in 40 degree pouring rain.)  But by the grace of God, I have learned so much about gratitude in the last year.  So many things that we have in life (dishwashers, washing machines, central heating, wifi, fast internet), we act as if everyone in the world has always had these conveniences when several years ago, no one had any of it and so many people still do not and may never have them.  It has been extremely humbling.  I have everything I could possibly need, a roof over my head, a sweet companion and protector in my husband Tim... so many more things.  I tend to feel so entitled and start believing that I actually just deserve everything I could ever want and if I don't have it I should in turn be unhappy, frustrated and feel bad for myself.  My intention in writing this is not to reiterate the same things we always talk about because you have heard it all before, I just want to say I am thankful for space heaters, cranberry red tables, cold floors + wool socks, plants that live for longer than 2 months + 'The Office'.  If you do not know what I am talking about, I'm sure you will soon, also, feel free to shoot me any questions and I am only a phone call away.  Happy to chat!

Also... even though I have very limited space on the boat I still take great pride and pleasure in decorating the table (The cranberry red table that is very "boaty" and Tim loves it!!  Me, not so much because I can't put normal tablecloths to cover it.  There is a lip around the entire table for when the boat is off on the bearing sea so dishes and glasses won't fly off!  Kind of hilarious and honestly functional, but still annoying!) + any other part of the boat.  I took some photos and the lighting is less than ideal... but I love my little table and I will slowly keep posting about the boat and maybe even do an entire shoot on it?  Yes, no?  Anyways, enjoy!

enjoy...

Love, Kait
